Topic

Spying

Background

Sound is vibration transmitted through a medium. When we think and talk about sound, though, we mean those vibrations in air molecules that can be picked up by human ears.

Can you really hear through a wall using a glass like some movie did?

Yes. Actually, the trick is to put the glass against the wall of an adjoining apartment.
When sound travels through a denser material, its velocity decreases. Sound/voice reaches the wall, and then the velocity of sound decreases inside the wall. When the sound wave reaches them it has lost some of its energy. That is loose talk though, more like it has lost its intensity because it had a much denser medium to travel through, namely the wall. Now when you put the drink glass to your ear, you are ensuring that the waves that come through the glass to your ear are not going anywhere outside your glass, because although the amplitude of the wave is restricted, the wave is contained in a closed space due to reflection of the wave off of the sides of the glass. But that is another loose non physics explanation.

Problem Identification

Spying is some people habit. They always wonder what is happening behind the walls, always wanted to hear the truth. All those conspiracies and plans behind their back, the arguing, the discussion, what channel they watching and etc. They always wanted know all of them.

Aim and Objectives

- To explore physical motion and non computer device as a way of interacting with sound.
- To making the glass as extension of the sound world, not confined in a speaker or other sound hearing device.
- To give user sense of experience spying on the next wall.

Motivation

Ideation and Concept

10-20 glasses stack on the wall. When user put the ear on the glass, they will hear sounds (conspiracies ,plans , the arguing, fighting., discussion, talking, channel they watching and etc). Every glass will have different sound.

Review , Analysis and Precedence Study

- this picture is not the artwork.
- I lost the link of artwork that inspired me ..  ( zzz ) . I`ll try find again soon..

Stranger

Background

Why is it so uncomfortable to stand really close to a stranger? Sure, there are the potentially icky things. Sometimes an elevator  is so crowded that you can smell a fellow rider's shampoo or chewing gum (or worse). But even when a stranger is perfectly groomed, it's usually a bit revolting to be pressed against him in public. Why?
Evolution seems to have programmed this discomfort via a brain structure called the amygdalae, a pair of almond-shaped brain regions deep within each temporal lobe that control fear and the processing of emotion.

Problem Identification

- lesser expression when taking picture with strangers.

Aim and Objectives

- To create a mysterious and thought-provoking experience to the users.
- To visualize and revealing the connection and interaction between user of the installation with same traits.
- To gives the illusion of having a group photo with random peoples.
- To find relationship between technology, expression and communication.

Motivation

Ideation and Concept

An interactive installation photography booth where visitors are able to take picture, fill in birthday month and store it in the database. After the user take the picture, a mashup picture with 3 different people of previous visitors will appear in one picture project near the photo booth to visualize the connection between visitors. This picture is a match up with two other random users with same birthday month. This also will give the illusion of the visitor taking picture with others visitor.

Review , Analysis and Precedence Study

- The project try to conveyed users that the perceived distance among humans, both in terms of time and space, were merely illusions.

Making Exercise Fun

Background

Exercise is one of the pillars of longevity. The benefits of exercise are many: heart health, weight management, better sleep, improved mood, more energy and many more. The biggest benefit? Reducing your risk of chronic illnesses. Through exercise, you’ll stay healthy longer, age well and feel great.

Problem Identification

When we were a child, we ran around all day, played catch, climbed trees, swam, danced around, jumped rope and bounced off walls until we passed out. Back then, we called it play and we loved it. But now we call it exercise . . . and we loathe it. Indeed, every time we think about working out, our entire body forms the word, “Ugh!” What changed?

Aim and Objectives

- To encourage physical activity through digital games.
- To explore physical motion as a way of interacting with video games, as a means to interpret physical spaces
- To exercise while having fun.

Motivation

The increasing media attention and market size of video games and obesity (both separately and together) have fueled both public and commercial interest all over the world over the decade.

Ideation and Concept

What I am trying to develop here is a reflect game; it is played by pressing and stepping sensors/button on a floor and wall (like the dance pad but with more grid), proper time with music. On LED cues in the form of button to show the player next step.

Review , Analysis and Precedence Study

- This look good of course, it’s an industrial product.
- I like the game play, this look like what I m trying to achieve in my installation.
- I’ll add floor to maybe, become wall and floor , and music .

- Dance Dance Revolution is the pioneering series of the rhythm and dance genre in video games.
- I`ll adapt the hit colored arrows that laid out in a cross and change the visual cues to LED cues like sportwall.

Design Approach

Possibility of technical approach:

- This project will be using LEDs cue and no interface, therefore this installation maybe will be using microcontroller. I will research on Arduino/Freeduino and 8052/8051 microcontrollers for this installation.

Pong !

Background

Pong is one of the earliest arcade video games, and is a tennis sports game featuring simple two-dimensional graphics. The aim is to defeat an opponent, either computer-controlled or a second player by earning a higher score. The game was originally manufactured by Atari Incorporated (Atari), who released it in 1972.Pong quickly became a success and is the first commercially successful video game, which led to the start of the video game industry.

Problem Identification

-         Old story new media. (theme)
-         Lack of interactivity and outdated graphics.
-         There are hundreds of derivatives of PONG games all over the world, yet all of them using the same interaction method.

Aim and Objectives

- To increases the interactivity of the game and makes it an enjoyable and dynamic derivative of the original PONG arcade game.
- To making the real world an extension of the virtual world, not confined in a computer or television screen.
- To explore physical motion as a way of interacting with video projection, as a means to interpret physical spaces

Motivation

Pong is a game that is both a piece of the pop culture and a symbol of the history of the computer age, I want to mix it with some new school technology and create a human/machine interaction where the interface would fit so comfortably that people could use it without instructions, actually forgetting that there even was an interface.

Ideation and Concept

Project on the floor / table /wall interact with movement of body, hand, leg or head?

Review , Analysis and Precedence Study

Original Pong

- Typically in Pong nowadays you're position is relative. Like, you can stay 2/3rdsup on the field, but in this older one, the bar constantly resets to the centre. That'd be mad.

- Is hard for me to imagine people enjoying the old games when nowadays we are so indulged by HD and 3D. Nevertheless, Pong is the first video games so you gotta give it some credit.

Bulotron - Interactive pong game

- This project uses a wii-mote hack and some rolling benches to let players control a floor-sized pong game. Its not what I m going for but the concept it’s pretty same, I intend to let users use their bodies in a natural, of course not using rolling bench.

Thomas kohl .Pong installation

- This 'pong' uses a camera which tracks colored post-its, coding in processing software, and projected on Monitor (vertically). The posts-its looks cute but not what I am looking for to achieve.
- I would make my installation flat horizontal, with processing (motion detection) and web cam / pir sensors.

Design Approach

Possibility of technical approach:

-: 2 camera, processing, Projector, flat floor , flash.
-: DFRduino Duemilanove 328 , 4 Pir sensor , 1 projector , 1 self-construct table
-: Camera that track color, processing software, and projector, a table or a canvas.
-: 2 cam, 1 projector, flash and zone trigger.
-: Wii-remote hack. Install in any tool/compartment (precedence study).
-: keyboard hack, flash, custom table.
-: others : openframework , myron(webcamxtra) , Logitech camera and software.
